Garbage collection across Vouraikos River Gorge

On the initiative of the Management Body of Chelmos - Vouraikos (CVMB), on Thursday, September 11, 2021, a garbage collection was carried out in zone A3 (Nature protection area of Vouraikos river gorge), from the village of Zachlorou to Niamata location. The E4 European path is a passage for many Greek and foreign visitors and the main responsibility of the CVMB is the protection and management of natural ecosystems and biodiversity. Important geotopes are found across the gorge of the Vouraikos river and for this reason the area has been included in UNESCO with the title "UNESCO World Geopark".

The forest protection experts Mrs. Maria Koulouki, Mr. Panagiotis Rigogiannis, Mr. Konstantinos Gounarakis and Mr. Christos Zervas, employees of the Management Body, contributed to this effort. In addition to this effort were present the volunteers of UNESCO, the German citizens, Mrs. Klara Weimann and Mr. Hans Hellmann.

In addition, we would like to warmly thank TRAINOSE for assisting with the train of the cog railway that covers the route Diakopto - Kalavrita, in the transport of all the garbage that had been collected. Without their input, this initiative would not have been possible successfully.
