Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Management Body, Gr. Iatrou, Emeritus Professor of Biology of the University of Patras, attended and presented the possibilities offered by Chelmos-Vouraikos National Park and UNESCO Global Geopark as regards the sustainable development of the area.

Chelmos-Vouraikos Management Body can make a substantial contribution to the region's development in a variety of ways. In addition to actions of promotion and protection of the biodiversity of the area, we have integrated the area into the Europark Federation network and with a great effort we have promoted and integrated our unique area into the UNESCO Global Geoparks. We believe in the important role that the Management Body can have in a variety of actions, eg in Alternative Tourism, the extension of the tourism season (beyond the winter period, ski, etc.), Environmental Education, Alternative Agriculture (Aromatic Herbs), etc., with multiple benefits for the local community. This establishes the recognition of Chelmos-Vouraikos National Park as an area with an exceptional geological heritage that enjoys international recognition. The important sights of our region are shown in international magazines and books and advertised in international tourism exhibitions. The purpose of networking is a constant collaboration with local authorities and local communities (producers, entrepreneurs, etc.) to increase the number of visits to the region. Through this recognition, local agencies are given the opportunity to participate in participatory processes, intending to promote the region, to certify local products, to propose measures and solutions, taking at the same time into account environmental protection, proper use of natural resources, the needs of local residents, local businesses and visitors. The opportunity to showcase our region at international level is great and combined with a new form of Ecotourism, Geotourism, make us hoping to bring a breath of development to our region as it has both infrastructure (accommodation, eating establishments) and also important tourist attraction centers (Ski center, Odontotos rack railway, monasteries, international trails).
