Fauna

The region's fauna is especially rich, with many species that, although not known to the general public, have a special scientific and biogeographical value.

Some of the species of animals in the area are included in Annex II of Directive 92/43 / EEC, others are included in the Red Data Book of Endangered Invertebrates, the Berne Convention for the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Environment (1979) ) and Presidential Decree 67/1981.

Overall, the protected area of the Chelmos-Vouraikos National Park is of exceptional ecological interest since it consists of a complex of habitat types of European and Mediterranean interest, where numerous and important species of fauna live and reproduce.
